The Western Albemarle Rescue Squad mourns the loss of one of our own. Lori Boles passed away today surrounded by her family, and several members of her crew were with her this afternoon as well. A member of the Thursday Day Crew, Lori joined in 2016 and served the community as an EMT and driver and was also a registered nurse. We ask that you keep Lori's family and her WARS family in your thoughts during this difficult time.

2019 was yet another record year for us. We ran 1,985 calls, more than 17% higher than 2018. This was also our busiest year ever. We are averaging a 9% call volume increase each year for the past 5 years. None of this would be possible without our extremely dedicated members who are committed to giving back and serving their community. We are nothing without them. We are committed to providing the Crozet and Western Albemarle communities with the highest level of care in the fastest manner. We are in house, staffed and dedicated 24/7. We are proud to serve you, All volunteer, all the time!

Squad 505 was placed in service today after 3 years of hard work by the truck committee. The truck immediately ran 2 calls followed by joining the Crozet Independence Day Parade lineup (below). After 23 years of dedicated service with minimal breakdowns and out-of-service time, our old 1993 GMC Hackney Rescue was officially decommissioned and is replaced by a 2015 Seagrave/SVI 4x4 Heavy Rescue with expanded services such as mobile air filling.

2/8/2016:

A little patience and a few extra eyes making sure the truck fit in the building without any problems. Worked like a charm!

The Western Albemarle Rescue Squad mourns the loss of a charter member, Richard Bland "Dick" Martin. Dick was instrumental in founding the Western Albemarle Rescue Squad, recognizing the need for faster EMS response to citizens in the Western Albemarle communities. Dick was a retired Sargeant with the Albemarle County Police Department and spent years working for the Albemarle County Sheriff's Department. Dick dedicated a lot of time to the Crozet Volunteer Fire Department and help positions as high as Assistant Chief. He dedicated his life to serving others and we as well as the community are forever grateful for his contributions.

9/29/2015:

Last week the heavy rains pushed our newly formed Water Rescue Team in service a few weeks earlier than planned. Within the first few hours of being in service we performed our first water rescue.

Pictured here is the group from WARS, ACFR, and Scottsville Fire that recently completed the Swift Water Rescue Course. Members look forward to taking additional courses in water rescue and training with our local teams from around the county and regionally.
While we always hope to never have to put this type of training to use, should it be needed, we are ready to respond. We are always looking for better ways we can serve our community and to meet it's growing needs. A big thank you to our great community for your continued support.
